Shakira Velasquez is a 3rd year English Literature Major with a Digital Humanities minor at UCLA. Interested in graphic design, marketing, branding, and communications, she plans on entering the technology industry as a communications strategist, marketer, or brand manager at a top tech firm such as LinkedIn, Facebook, or Google. She is motivated to pursue these fields because they are powerful tools for communicating a company's core messages and values and attracting diverse talent. As the first Latina in her family to enter this field, she aspires to become a role model for students of color pursuing careers in tech, a predominantly white-dominated industry. By promoting inclusivity and breaking down barriers to entry, she aims to inspire and lead the way for the next generation of POC leaders in technology. Ultimately, Shakira seeks to create a more just and diverse future where all POC individuals have equal access to resources and opportunities to fulfill their potential in tech.
